Life of David W. Patten, the first apostolic martyr

David Wyman Patten was born, ca. 1800, in Vermont, the son of Benenio and Abagail Cole Patten. His family moved to western New York when he was young. As a young man, he moved to Michigan, where he married Phoebe Ann Babcoke in 1828 at Dundee, Monroe County. He was baptized in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1832 and was was ordained at apostle of the Church in Kirtland, Ohio, in 1835. He was killed by a mob in Missouri in 1838.
