In Wild Nights, the famously reclusive poetess Emily Dickinson appears as a life-like computerized mannequin brought home by a childless, affluent suburban couple in the hope that their disaffected lives will be "enhanced" by a poet-genius in their household. Soon, like generations of literary critics and biographers, the Krims find themselves obsessed by the wraithlike Emily. Grandpa Clemens and Angelfish 1905 traces a platonic love affair between the 70-year-old Sam Clemens/Mark Twain and a naïve 15-year-old schoolgirl who reminds him of his deceased daughter Suzy. In 1906 Clemens is a brilliant but dispirited public man in the twilight of his career--and susceptible to the charms of girls young enough to be his granddaughters, whom he invites to join an "exclusive" club in which Clemens is the only adult member.
