Introduction to soft soil geotechnique : content, context and application

Habitable space in deltas and river basins is under increasing pressure worldwide from economic expansion, population growth and the impacts of climate change. It is expected that within 40 years, 80 per cent of all people will live in deltaic regions. An understanding of the complex behavior of the subsoil is particularly important in these areas. Solutions must be found which draw on the potential of the coastal system and enhance safety in densely populated coastal areas whilst minimizing ecological impact. This book focuses on the behavior of soft soils, notably sand, silt, clay and peat.
