The name, Minorcans, was given to "Mediterranean subsistence farmers from Minorca, Italy and Greece" who settled forty miles south of St. Augustine. "When East Florida was retroceded to Spain in 1784, they became the core of the Hispanic population in St. Augustine"--Pref.
