Long kept a diary (1882-83) focusing on his work as a lawyer, though he does disclose more personal information in it than in his correspondence. The bulk of correspondence is from Long's son, Bayard, to his mother and his friend Janet B. Walters, discussing his scholastic endeavors and travels as a young botanist. Clippings on Madame Butterfly, Leslie Carter (Kassa), and Minnie Maddern Fiske (Dolice), as well as other reviews illustrate how the public reacted to Long's work. There are two boxes of photographs, including Long's promotional photograph, but most are not identified."
