Included are letters received by Christensen on the occasion of his retirement from the Army in June 1865, a few official communications and personal letters received by Christensen during his war service, including a letter written in rebus (1864) and a telegram from James T. Holtzclaw negotiating the surrender of Mobile, Ala. (Apr. 1865); post-war letters from Eunice Ward Beecher and Henry Ward Beecher, (1877-1885), Lyman Abbott (1888-1904), William Tecumseh Sherman (1880-1881), and others, chiefly concerning his charity work and Civil War experience.
