  • "Consists of a complete record of household expenses, 1877-1889. Eliza purchased many household commodities and at times included details about them in the account book. Among other expenses are books by title, muslin, plated forks, spoons, a ladle, salts, household furnishings, red wine (medicine), a green student's lamp, tuition, travel, etc. She also recorded who she traded with. Benjamin Green, for example, was paid for an oil cloth used to cover her hall floor and stairs. William Price did some graining. In 1882, she hired Charles Pulley to shake her carpets. Regular payments out suggest that she had servants."
