"Kenzo Okuzaki a Japanese imperial Army veteran, documents whether the executions of a buddy and five deserters by fellow soldiers in the jungles of Papua New Guinea actually occurred."
"Kenzo Okuzaki, a Japanese veteran of World War II tracks down former military officers responsible for the deaths of several Japanese soldiers."
""This documentary was five years in the making, and revolves around 62-year-old Okuzaki Kenzo, a survivor of the battlefields of New Guinea in World War II who gained notoriety by slingshooting steel pinballs at Emperor Showa to protest against what he considered to be the ruler's war crimes. Setting out to conduct interviews with survivors and relatives, he finds the truth of the past to be elusive, achieving a breakthrough only when he confronts ex-Sergeant Yamada, who grudgingly admits the occurrence and instructional source of certain atrocities." -- www.imdb.com."
"This documentary follows obsessive WWII veteran Kenzo Okuzaki and his crusade to uncover the truth of certain events during the war. Okuzaki tracks down, corners, and interrogates ex-military leaders who he believes are responsible for the deaths of his comrades. The manner in which everyone reacts to what is going on--the bowing, the religious reverence, the initial politeness that gives way to violence, the dancing around subjects such as cannibalism, murder, guilt and responsibility--seems at once utterly bizarre and yet is handled as though it could not be more normal. In part, the film's subject is culture clash of a very special sort--not only do Westerners misunderstand the nuances of Japanese culture, but Okuzaki seems not to understand how far he has come from these norms as he relentlessly pursues his agenda."
