J. Weston Allen, Attorney General, (by information), petitioner, v. Nathan A. Tufts, District Attorney, respondent

Tufts, the Middlesex County District Attorney, was accused of misconduct in office. A 1917 party given in Boston in honor of Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle moved to Woburn, Mass., to an establishment run by Kingston "Brownie" Kennedy. This business, the Mishawum Manor, was a brothel which sold alcoholic beverages illegally. Arbuckle and Adolph Zukor of the Paramount Moving Pictures Corporation attended this gathering. Kennedy was later charged and convicted of running a brothel and of alcohol violations. An attempt to fix this prosecution was allegedly made, and allegedly involved Mayor James M. Curley, an associate of his, Daniel H. Coakley and Tufts, among others. Over $100,000 was alleged to have changed hands. The Attorney General asked the Court to remove Tufts from office. Tufts was convicted and removed from office.
