"The logbook of the bark Augustus details a shipping voyage from Salem, Mass., to Hobart (Tas.), Sydney (N.S.W.), and New Zealand's Bay of Islands, returning to Salem, Dec. 1839-Sept. 1840. The master was Charles D. Mugford. The bark's owners were Mugford, Charles Millet, and John W., Nathaniel L., and Richard S. Rogers. The logbook includes notes on the ship's cargo, some passenger traffic, some instances of diseases (illnesses) aboard, and the desertion of some crew members. Ships spoken include the ships Boy, John Adams, and Julian; the barks Hero, Honneymede and Maria; and the brig John Thomas."
