Un nom simple, mais ce n'est pas le sien. Son passé enfoui lui revient peu à peu, avec des doutes sur sa filiation. Aidé de Caroline, une camarade de classe, il part à la recherche de son passé, en cachette de son grand-père adoré, car il a peur de le perdre. -- Ce roman sensible, aux personnages tendres et attachants, montre à quel point un secret sur ses origines peut perturber un enfant. Culpabilité, remords ou crainte de raviver de vieux souvenirs ont incité les adultes à cacher la vérité. Sam va leur forcer la main et les obliger à dévoiler sa véritable identité. La difficulté de lire est abordée en filigrane. Le texte, s'il n'est pas une succession d'actions périlleuses, est pourtant passionnant.
