Salmonid escapements at Kwiniuk, Niukluk and Nome Rivers, 2006
The Alaska Department of Fish and Game operated counting tower projects on the Kwiniuk and Niukluk Rivers and a weir project on the Nome River during the 2006 season. Runs of chum salmon Oncorhynchus keta, pink salmon O. gorbuscha, Chinook salmon O. tshawytscha, sockeye salmon O. nerka, coho salmon O. kisutch, and Dolly Varden Salvelinus malma were enumerated. Objectives of the projects were to obtain daily and seasonal estimates of the timing and magnitude of salmon escapements and to collect biological data (age, sex, and length) from chum salmon and coho salmon.
