  • "Vicente Blasco Ibáñez (1867-1928). España. Nació en Valencia el 29 de enero de 1867. Estudió Derecho pero no ejerció esa profesión y se dedicó a la política y la literatura. Con veintiún años se inició en la Masonería el 6 de febrero de 1887 y adoptó el nombre simbólico de Danton en la Logia Unión nº 14 de Valencia y después en la logia Acacia nº 25. Allí recibió el encargo del presidente Raymond Poincaré de escribir esta novela sobre la guerra: Los cuatro jinetes del Apocalipsis (1916), que fue un auténtico éxito de ventas en los Estados Unidos. Blasco Ibáñez murió en Menton (Francia) el 28."

  • ""For the present edition we have followed the Keniston text except for the revisions made in the original version of the novel by the author's own hand in 1925. This made necessary the new Spanish-English vocabulary contained in our edition. Dean Keniston gave us permission to make liberal use of the materials found in his edition, and our text, therefore, is a lineal descendant of the 1910 publication. For that reason, the name of Hayward Keniston appears on the title page as a joint editor."--Preface."
