Account books, diaries, correspondence, and other business records of Augustin Austin of Sheffield, Mass., his son Abner Austin, merchant and paper mill operator at Hudson and Catskill, N.Y., and other family members. Includes records of paper production, employee records from the paper mill, accounts from the company store, correspondence and accounts concerning the Catskill bookshop, bad debt records, and gardening records. Diaries of Abner Austin, 1814-1852, concern mill, farm, and trading business with some notes of trips, church attendance, local deaths, fires, and doing jury duty. Collection also includes account books of Samuel Fowks, blacksmith in Leeds, N.Y., 1817-1833; cashbook and letter book of Nathan Elliot, 1819-1824; and record of the Farmers Mutual Fire Insurance Company, Town of Catskill, consisting of correspondence, policies, account books, and record of assessments and insurance costs levied against members to cover losses incurred, 1869-1902.
