Guidance manual for developing site-specific soil quality remediation objectives for contaminated sites in Canada
This report was prepared to provide environmental officers and site managers with guidance on the assessment and remediation of contaminated sites in Canada. The first section presents a general introduction to the scientific tools developed to help in such assessment and remediation. The framework in this section explains how these tools may be used at various stages in site remediation. Section two recommends procedures for deriving site-specific soil quality remediation objectives, using a guideline-based approach. These recommendations include procedures for evaluating the applicability of generic guidelines to individual contaminated sites and for modifying these guidelines to account for atypical or unique site characteristics. In addition, hypothetical examples illustrating the application of the recommended procedures are provided. Includes glossary.
