This is the story of Gloucester Bloke Bill Lawrence's life after the Second World War. After serving in North Africa and Italy with the RAF, Bill returns home to his wife Sally and daughter Jill. Bill's humorous tales of his life, and the characters that he meets, are a joy - from the effects of his father-in-law's potent home made wine upon an unsuspecting visitor, to his brother's narrow escape from an enraged bull. But there is sorrow too, with the deaths of both his father and Sally's, and later the death of his beloved Sally. After Sally's death, he emigrated to Australia to join his daughter and her family, adapting to his new life with the help of a friend to share memories of home.
