- "David and his gay college friend, Jonathan, plan to spend the Christmas holiday at David's home in Maryland. The beginning of the AIDS epidemic lingers in the background of their relationship. During the visit they are exposed to David's family business, including that of the Black household maid who is treated like the ex-slave she would have been 100 years ago. David and Jonathan's gay relationship surfaces and is condemned by Mary. David's goal on the other hand is to further Mary's diminished education. Over the passage of years the latter is completed while AIDS takes its toll."
