"Set in the Australian outback in the 1880s, and featuring a star-studded cast, this movie follows the series of events after the horrific rape and murder of the Hopkins family, allegedly committed by the infamous Burns brothers gang. Law officer Capt. Morris Stanley (Ray Winstone) has two of the four Burns brothers, Charlie (Guy Pearce) and Mikey (Richard Wilson) in custody, while Arthur Burns (Danny Huston), the eldest brother and the gang's mastermind, remains at large has and has retreated to a mountain hideout. Stanley makes a deal with Charlie - that he will pardon him - and more importantly - save his beloved younger brother Mikey from the gallows if he hunts down and kills Arthur within nine days. As Charlie sets off to find his brother, Stanley's boss Eden Fletcher (David Wenham) learns of the deal they made and orders that Mikey be given 100 lashes. Stanley is aghast as he believes Mikey is innocent and that the flogging will surely kill him, and it will also put in jeopardy his deal with Charlie."
