In his travels he meets a young blonde (Veronica Lake) is accused of his own murder and sentenced to a chain gang. As Sullivan treads the road dressed in a hobo outfit provided by his studio's costume department, a fully-equipped "land yacht," complete with physician, photographer, reporter, secretary and chauffeur, follows him to take care of his every need. Abandoning the land yacht, in search of the real and in the midst of brutality and despair, he makes a discovery, what the downtrodden need most is laughter. A memorable scene at the beginning of the film finds celebrity Sullivan taking off on his quest on foot, dressed as a bum, followed by several cars and the land yacht, filled with newsmen, and his personal secretary."@en
