When news arrives that the Thane of Cawdor has been executed, Lady Macbeth persuades her husband to murder Banquo. However, the ghost of Banquo appears to Macbeth at a banquet and Macduff, Lord of Fife, and Malcolm, King Duncan's son, escape to England. Again there is a warning from the witches to Macbeth to beware Macduff and that Banquo's children shall reign. Eventually Lady Macbeth loses her reason and dies and Macbeth is killed by Macduff. Malcolm, Duncan's son, becomes king."
