"Jede Stadt ist anders. Das liegt nicht nur an charakteristischen Bauweisen oder einmaligen Sehenswürdigkeiten. Unterschiede sind für Bewohner wie Besucher über die Architektur hinaus regelrecht spürbar. Die Autorinnen und Autoren erörtern, was den spezifischen Charakter einer Stadt ausmacht und wie man ihm gerecht wird. Um Städte im Hinblick auf ihre jeweiligen Besonderheiten angemessen planen und gestalten zu können, bedarf es der Kenntnis ihrer Strukturen, ihrer Geschichte und ihrer Möglichkeiten, kurz: ihrer Eigenlogik. Anhand von Beispielen wie Köln, Frankfurt, Johannesburg oder Delhi behandeln die Beiträge die Wirtschaft, die Architektur, die Politik und die Kultur von Städten. Darüber hinaus stellen sie dar, welchen Gewinn Stadtgestalter für Planung, Entwicklung und Marketing aus diesen Perspektiven ziehen können, um die Attraktivität ihrer Stadt zu steigern. Der Band übersetzt erstmals die Erkenntnisse des soziologischen Ansatzes der "Eigenlogik der Städte" für die praktische Arbeit an, in und mit Städten. Über den Autor:Martina Löw ist Professorin für Stadt- und Raumsoziologie an der TU Darmstadt. Georgios Terizakis, Dr. phil., ist Koordinator der Hochschul-Praxis- Kooperationsstelle am Forschungsprojekt "Eigenlogik der Städte" an der TU Darmstadt. Seit 2004 gibt es dort den Forschungsschwerpunkt "Stadtforschung", seit 2008 wird die Forschung zur "Eigenlogik der Städte" vom Hessischen Ministerium für Wissenschaft und Kunst gefördert."
