Career opportunities for psychologists : expanding and emerging areas

The last job survey conducted by APA in June 1974 reported that one out of every five recent PhDs was unemployed at the time of graduation. However, in the traditional academic areas such as experimental, physiological, and social psychology, closer to one out of every three recent PhDs was unemployed at the time of graduation. It is therefore imperative that graduate students be made aware of new and expanding job possibilities. This book attempts to broaden the horizons for prospective psychologists and to contribute to changes in professional preparation. The book also provides options not ordinarily considered by psychologists wishing to change careers or those who currently may be unemployed or underutilized. In a small way at least, it should help ameliorate what could be called "the new depression" for the highly educated. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2004 APA, all rights reserved).
