Version originale anglaise."
"The second part of Pasolini's triology of life, based on the 14th Century stories of Geoffrey Chaucer."
"This adaptation of Chaucer, with the Decameron (1971) and Arabian Nights (1974), forms a trilogy of films by Pasolini based on a literary-cultural tradition. The narrator - Pasolini as a fictional Chaucer - serves as an anchor for four disparate tales (The Merchant's Tale, The Miller's Tale, The Friar's Tale, and the Pardoner's Tale) grouped in an open-ended fashion in a textural layering. Visually the film is remodelled after English and German miniatures of the time. There is a disquietingly dark undertow beneath the sumptuous reds and the strident yeollows, the rich and sometimes coarse humour and sexual exuberance. To Pasolini the trilogy was an unequivocal statement that ideology and sexuality are inseparably linked, the explicit sexuality being largley conceived as a protest against the rigid moralism of the extreme left."@en
