"Curtis LaForche lebt mit seiner Frau Samantha und der gemeinsamen sechsjährigen, tauben Tochter Hannah in einer Kleinstadt in Ohio. Als Teamleiter einer Sandgewinnungs-Firma verfügt er über ein bescheidenes Einkommen. Samantha, Hausfrau und Mutter, verdient mit einem Teilzeitjob als Näherin dazu, indem sie ihre handgefertigten Artikel jedes Wochenende auf dem Flohmarkt verkauft.
