The first address is about the Canadian Author's Association. Grove had prepared a paper for its 1926 convention in Vancouver, but the session on Authorship was cancelled for a social function. Grove, indignant, published his paper along with other essays three years later in "this austerely idealistic volume" (W. Kirkconnell, A Slice of Canada, 1967, 293, quoted in Pacey, Letters of FPG, 1976, p. 150, n.4).
