Platelets are small cells are of great importance in many proccesses including thrombosis, bleeding, inflammation, the body's defense against infectious agents, and cancer growth and metastasis. Recently there has been a rapid expansion of the knowledge in both basic biology and the clinical approach to platelet-related diseases including disorders of platelet number and function.
