Edward Padula papers relating to the stage and film adaptations of The cotton club by Jim Haskins

The papers include materials doumenting the ultimately unsuccessful efforts of Edward Padula, Jim Hinton, and Charles Childs to develop, finance, and produce a stage musical based on the Jim Haskins book, The Cotton Club, published in 1977. The majority of material dates from 1980 to 1983, and includes correspondence, contracts, stage treatments, publicity packets, and Cotton Club company stationery. A copy of Haskins's book with notes by Padula laid in, various newspaper and magazine articles, and theater production programs are also included. There is no script or music for the proposed production within the collection. Padula's work as a consultant to the 1984 film adaptation of The Cotton Club is documented by a contract, an "estimating draft" of the screenplay, and a program that includes a credit for Padula.
