"The logbook of the ship Indus is actually a personal journal detailing a shipping voyage from Boston to Saint Helena, Huangpu Qu (Whampoa), Guangzhou Shi (Canton), and Jakarta, Mar. 1802-May 1803. The logbook is incomplete, ending just short of the Bermudas on the way home. The ship's home port was Boston; the master was Richard Wheatland; the logbook keeper was Charles Waldo. The logbook includes a list of vessels at Huangpu Qu in 1802; an instance of punishment of one of the merchant mariners on board; equipment and supplies, specifically provisions, aboard ship; notes on seafaring life; and a description of Saint Helena. During its voyage, the Indus spoke the ship Herald out of Boston."
