Once known as the lords of New Mexico, the Navajo sustained centuries of battle against the Spanish and other Indian tribes. Then came a dark period in their history. In 1863 the Navajo became part of a grand experiment by the United States government to rid the West of its native people. Rounded up like cattle, they were forced on a deadly journey called the Long Walk. This is their story."
