Three dimensional milling using an abrasive waterjet

"This dissertation focused on an investigation of metal milling using abrasive waterjet (AWJ) technology. After reviewing existing methods, a new tool named the Wobbler was tested. The test results showed that a very smooth milled surface could be achieved with this tool when it was operated with the proper parameters ... However, the tests also showed that it was very difficult to accurately control the milling depth ... Based on the results of these investigations, several empirical models, including the optimum abrasive flow rate (AFR) model, surface roughness prediction model and taper removal model, have been developed ... As a result, a controlled cutting condition could be established, with the cut quality conforming to the aerospace industry and its customers"--Abstract, leaf iii.
