Hecate Strait climate-forced nutrient, phytoplankton, zooplankton model version 4.3.4
This report describes the structure and dynamics of a climate-forced nutrient, phytoplankton, and zooplankton model for Hecate Strait. The model tracks the flow of biomass from the bottom of the food web (phytoplankton), through copepods, other key zooplankton, and euphausiids, to higher order predators in the system. The current version of the model (v4.3.4) is forced by a suite of climatic factors that regulate phytoplankton production through water temperature, hours of sunlight, wind mixing and upwelling. These last two factors, in turn, affect nutrient availability.
