Carol Baron interviews contemporary Israeli composer Josef Tal. Tal discusses such topics as the beginning of his career as a pianist and composer in the early 1930's in Berlin, Germany at the same time as Stefan Wolpe worked as a composer for the Kleines Theater in Berlin. He talks about the music Wolpe composed for theatrical productions and compares it to his later 12-tone music. The composer reminiscences about his meetings with Wolpe and his wife of that time Irma in the Palestine Academy and Conservatory of Music in Jerusalem (later renamed Academy of Music) where both of the composers taught in the late 1930's, and talks about Wolpe as a composer and teacher. Speaking about serialism in music, Tal mentions such names as Milton Babbitt and Elliott Carter, and analyzes contemporary avant-garde musical works comparing them to classical music.
