Senator Ashley Butler is a typical Southern demagogue whose support of traditional American values includes a knee-jerk reaction against virtually all biotechnologies. When he's called to chair a subcommittee introducing legislation to ban new cloning technology, the Senator sees his political future in bold relief. Dr Daniel Lowell, the inventor of the technique that will take stem cell research to the next level, views Senator Butler's appointment as a roadblock positioned on his route to fame, fortune and scientific glory. A clash between the two men is inevitable but fate and nature add an ironic twist in the tale.
