Facets

This is a many-sided book in several regards. Think of a gem. On one side, there is Hillary Cox, a writer; on another, Pamela St. George, a jewelry designer. On a third, there is Pamela's brother John, a mining magnate; and on a fourth, Cutter Reid, once a devil-may-care tourmaline miner, now as sophisticated as John. In setting, Facets ranges far as well, from the glitz of New York to the elitism of Boston to the nitty-gritty of the small Maine mining town of Timiny Cove. Likewise personalities: Facets pits the arrogant, self-centered John against the newly vengeful Hillary, the creative and sensitive Pamela, and the doggedly self-made Cutter. Spanning three decades, Facets is a family drama.

  • "Successful writer Hillary Cox could not escape her obsession for one man, and all the pain and passion he offered. John St. George was not content with his father's fortune in tourmaline mines and a chain of jewelry stores; he wanted his father's young second wife, too. The death of Pam St. George's father left her at her half-brother's mercy, and John would rule her like a tyrant, and a lover. Cutter Reid was transformed from a kid with no future to a man with distinction, and he was the object of John's undying hatred, and Pam's tempestuous love. When John St. George announces his engagement on national TV, Hillary Cox threatens to bring him down in disgrace - while a three-decade-old family drama of power, duplicity, and money comes to its explosive conclusion."

  • "Nothing can prepare writer Hillary Cox for seeing her lover of 20 years, mining and jewelry magnate John St. George, announce on television that he's marrying another woman. Seeking revenge, Hillary begins a tell-all book exposing John and his shady past. John's sister, Pamela St. George, also wants revenge against her brother. Throughout her life, Pamela has suffered horrifying abuses at John's hands. She sets out to wrest control of the family's tourmaline mining business from him. As Hillary attempts to end her obsession with John, Pamela searches for Cutter Reid, the one man she has always loved, and from whom John has always kept her. Now, a three-decade-old family drama of power, duplicity, and money comes hurtling to an explosive final confrontation with the one man who has so damaged their lives."@en
  • "A three-decade old family drama of power, duplicity and money is played out to an extraordinary conclusion. The main character is John St. George who is not satisfied with his family fortune and yearns for his father's young second wife. All along he has been in a passionate but loveless affair with writer Hillary Cox."

  • ""Dear Reader, Book titles can stymie an author. Finding the right one is like hitting stride in a long-distance race: The sooner you do it, the better the run. Facets was Facets from the opening shot, a natural when the book was first published in 1990 and a natural today. This is a many-sided book in several regards. Think of a gem. On one side, there is Hillary Cox, a writer; on another, Pamela St. George, a jewelry designer. Likewise personalities: Facets pits the arrogant, self-centered John against the newly vengeful Hillary, the creative and sensitive Pamela, and the doggedly self-made Cutter. Spanning three decades, Facets is as much a family drama as any I've ever written. My writing style may have changed since 1990, but the heart and soul of my characters have not. Please enjoy Facets as much as I did then - and do now. My thanks and best wishes, Barbara Delinsky"--Publisher's web site."@en
  • "A man's ex-fiancee and his half-sister combine forces to ruin him after he marries his step-mother and drives his sister's fiance away."
  • ""Writer Hillary Cox has been exceptionally patient and discreet during her 27-year affair with mining and jewelry magnate John St. George, a man who is, as they say, not the "marrying kind." Thus, when John announces on television that he has become engaged to another woman, Hillary's thoughts turn to equally public revenge: she decides to write a biographical expose of his personal and business life. John's much younger half-sister, Pamela, readily acknowledges that he's "arrogant, self-centered, despotic, and sly." She tries, however, to dissuade Hillary from her plan, hinting that she has more subtle schemes afoot for John's destruction. But the scorned woman forges on, learning that the man for whom she harbors an obsession has a loathsome history of blackmail, theft, heartless seduction, attempted incest and physical violence. Delinsky's story holds up to the last--instead of settling for melodramatic soap opera, she opts for a much less neat but more realistic ending"--Publisher's weekly."@en
