In 1907 Wisconsin, the wealthy 58-year-old Ralph Truitt places an advert in the newspaper for a wife. Catherine Land responds to the ad and marries Ralph with the intent to kill him and abscond with his fortune. However, when the two genuinely fall in love, both Ralph and Catherine find themselves having second thoughts.
