Emma Le Roux sees her brother on the television news, although he is supposed to be dead. When she tries to find out more, she is attacked, so she hires Lemmer, a personal security expert, and sets out in search of the truth. As Lemmer and Emma search for answers, they encounter racial and political tensions, greed, corruption, and violence unlike anything they have ever known.
