In the 31st millennium, after thousands of years of expansion and conquest, the galaxy is ruled by the benevolent Immortal Emperor. It is the golden age of discovery, and the human Imperium is at its height. On the eve of yet another victory, the Emperor removes himself from the front lines of battle, leaving his favorite son, Horus, to bring the crusade to a satisfactory close.
