Olympic fever sports day in rural China

Inspired by the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics and with exams behind them, the students of rural Anhui are eager to start training for Sports Day, as this program shows. Dai Deli is the fastest runner in his primary school and determined to take the gold, and teenager Xu Lei, though injured, refuses to give up. As the video observes preparations for Sports Day it reveals glimpses of Chinese life, touching on the duties of the high school's Communist Party rep (and first female winner of the fishing contest); the lot of the Left Behind Children, whose parents have migrated to the city for work; and the hairstyle requirements of applying for a national ID card.
