The fire and the gold

Returning to San Francisco on the evening of April 18, 1906, Melora Cranby is determined to break her engagement to Quent Seymour of Nob Hill. Instead, she is caught up in the chaos of a devastating earthquake and the resulting fires. There was the surprising encounter with impetuous Tony Ellis; and the conflict that was to grow between Tony and Quent, a conflict into which her younger sister Cora was drawn. There was her mother who had such definite ideas about the man Melora should marry. By New Year's Eve, San Francisco had begun to rise from the ruins and Melora was ready for her own future.
