"The one" and the "other" Barack Obama in the New York times and the Washington post op-eds

This thesis analyzes the media discourses surrounding the Rev. Wright controversy and Barack Obama's "A More Perfect Union" speech. Taking these two instances of heightened media attention as the basis, the thesis will look at the ways the media used snippets from Rev. Wright's sermons to represent Obama as the "Other." In addition, the thesis studies the media's reception of Obama's speech and how the media's depiction of the presidential candidate changed over the course of March and April, 2008, from the "Other" to "the One."
