"The long-term goals of the Archive Project are to: (1) build a system that can usefully archive for the library community the discussion lists that it deems sufficiently significant to keep long term, (2) build a repository of data with similar structure but with diverse centers of discourse for use in a variety of research efforts, such as natural language processing, distributed databases, and intelligent agents, and (3) provide a freely available e-mail archiving application to the OCLC SiteSearch user community. Along the way to these long-term goals, two desired interim results were achieved: (1) building a World Wide Web-based browsable archive, using the MHonArc mail archiving software, and (2) adding searching capability via the OCLC SiteSearch system.
