Recollections of Herbert R. Hearsey : an autobiographical account

Herbert R. Hearsey was born to Waldo Warren Hearsey (1872-1961) and Isabel Hicks (1874-1958) in Somerville, Massachusetts in 1910. He was their 3rd child. They had four children, all sons: Waldo Warren (1897-1983), Richard C. (1902-1968?), Herbert R. (1910- ) and William (1912-1955). Herbert attended elementary school in Cambridge. In 1920 his parents divorced and he lived with his mother afterwards. In 1926 Herbert became the first member of his family, ancestors included, to venture past grade school. First, he attended Rindge Technical School (high school), and from 1931-1934 he went to Tufts College. In 1938 Herbert married Laura Beth Davis (1908- ). They had four children (including twins): Faith R. (1939- ), Bryan V. (1942- ), William W. (1949- ) and Richard V. (1949- ). The family moved to Bellingham, Washington after Herbert was hired to a reference position at the Western Washington College of Education. He became associate director there in 1967.
