The police labor movement problems and perspectives

This book looks at the development and utility of police employee organizations with particular attention to case studies in unionization. A discussion of the Boston police strike of 1919 begins the tracing of the growing movement toward recognition of bargaining needs of police as employees. Current forms of police protest-such as 'blue flu' or traffic ticketing campaigns- are discussed. The legal issues raised when public employees strike are treated and the strike alternatives or collective bargaining and arbitration are covered.
