In this work, an optimal approach for transitioning to a new XML workflow process in the publishing industry is illustrated based upon the exigencies of three different types of publishers: a publisher of literary fiction, a scientific publishing house, and a publisher of self-help and children's books. After presenting basic technical issues, a suitable cross-media publishing strategy is proposed for each type of publishing house.
