Learning from pictures

Well prepared, carefully chosen, two-dimensional visual aids are valuable in the learning process as a source of information and as a stimulator of student response. A student's visual perception and his degree of self-awareness can be evaluated by his reaction to pictures. At the instructional level, pictures can expand an experience, dramatize a process or technique, or emphasize a major point. Student preparation of visual material can motivate learning, creativity, and group cooperation. There are numerous ways visual materials can be used in teaching art, music, business education, mathematics, home economics, foreign languages, science, health and safety, and social studies. In America we live in a world of pictures, and they may be obtained from many sources. A Primary Source List (psl) indexes 148 suppliers of pictorial material and gives the address of the supplier and the type and price of material offered.
