Haki the Shetland pony

There is no future for Adam Cromarty on his parents' croft in the Shetlands. Should he sell his beloved pony Haki, who he has cared for and trained since birth, to buy a ticket for the mainland where there is more chance for a job? Adam cannot bring himself to do this so he makes a deal with a circus owner that he can only buy Haki if he takes him too as a trainer.
