The collection contains manuscript, proofs, correspondence, notes, photographs and cassettes relating to Chris (Christine) Williams' biography of Christina Stead and her later publication, Fathers and sons. For the biography of Stead, the correspondence is mostly with Stead's friends and acquaintances. During the research Williams also corresponded with the Australian Archives; U.S. Intelligence and F.B.I.; Virago; McPhee Gribble. The cassettes contain interviews with informants, including Elizabeth Harrower, Elizabeth Riddell and Stead's stepdaughter Ruth Hall. The chief correspondents include C.B. Christesen, Dorothy Green, Jack Lindsay, Kate Stead. Material for the book Fathers and sons (Angus & Robertson, 1996) includes correspondence, taped interviews, drafts of the interview manuscripts, and photographs. The interviewees included Graeme Blundell, Ric Charlesworth, Marcus Einfeld, Michael Kirby, Lionel Rose, Norman Swan, Ted Whitten Jnr., Robyn Williams and Michael Wilding.
