It tells the true story of the friendship between Jack Rinn, and Minoru Kohata, a major in the wartime Japanese Army."@en . . . . "In 1945, at the conclusion of World War II, Japanese soldiers on the South Pacific island of Truk surrendered to American forces who were sent to disarm them and return them to Japan. The Japanese were very grateful that the Americans treated them humanely, and one of their officers, Major Minoru Kohata, presented U.S. naval officer Jack Rinn with his family heirloom samurai sword to show his appreciation. Jack Rinn was determined to one day return the sword, but his initial efforts to locate information about the Japanese army unit and its officers were unsuccessful. Finally, in the 1990s, Jack's son Scott was able to locate Minoru Kohata, and subsequently the two old war veterans established a correspondence which led to friendship, the return of the samurai sword, and a reunion in America." .
