At least 25 of the letters, dating from October 1786-May 1787, relate to preparations for the departure of the First Fleet for Botany Bay. Most of these letters deal with arms, equipment, clothing, drums and wives, and with the embarkation of the convict ships. Two letters, dated May 1789, relate to the Second Fleet.
