"Whereas the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel's missionary work in the West Indies began as early as 1712, the greater part of its resources throughout the 18th century were concentrated in Britain's colonies in pre-revolutionary America and provide, along with the collection of American material in the archives of the USPG, 1635-1812, an often unique source of first-hand information on its social and political history.
